Today, Football Canada announced its 26-man Football Canada Cup all-star team, chosen from standouts that competed in the 2015 edition of the under-18 national tackle football championship, from July 13-19 at Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu’s Alphonse-Desjardins Stadium (see roster below).
This group of 26 Canada Cup all-stars will be joined by an additional 14 to form a roster of 40 players, invited to compete against Team USA in the U18 game, at the 2016 International Bowl series. The third installment of the Canada-U.S. series, is tentatively scheduled between late January and early February, 2016 in Arlington, Texas. The final 14 players will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2015 Canada Cup consisted of eight participating teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and two from host Quebec – Quebec-Blue and Quebec-White.
Canada returns last year’s player of the game, Jevante Stanley, in addition to Quebec standouts, Samuel Makwanda and Cheikhe Sidy Sow.
This year’s Football Canada Cup winning head coach, Brad Collinson, of Quebec-Blue, will serve as Canada’s U18 head coach while the remainder of the coaching staff will be comprised of coaches from each of the national championship’s participating provincial teams. Collinson previously served as head coach of Canada’s U18 International Bowl squad in the game’s inaugural installment in 2014.
International Bowl games to help select Junior National Team
Canada’s U18 and U19 games will serve as a final step in the selection process for Canada’s Junior National Team as they prepare for the 2016 IFAF U-19 World Championship. Learn more about the process here.
