2016 Football Canada Cup schedule announced
Winnipeg to host U18 national tackle football championship, July 9-15
Provincial teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and two from host Manitoba will compete in the under-18 national tackle football championship, the Football Canada Cup, from July 9-15, 2016 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Canada’s premier pre-university football tournament consists of three game days within a week-long span. Investors Group Field will play host to the first and final game days while the second game day on Tuesday July 12 will take place at East Side Stadium. The tournament’s two undefeated teams will battle for gold on Friday July 15 at 8 p.m. CT to close out the tournament.
The Canada Cup returns to Manitoba for the first time since 2006 and boasts a number of notable alumni including Israel Idonije, Andy Fantuz, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Tyler Crapigna, David Foucault, Tevaun Smith and Mehdi Abdesmad. Six of the last seven CIS Rookie of the Year Award winners – Mathieu Betts (2015); Hugo Richard (2014); Daniel Vandervoort (2013); Shaquille Johnson (2012); Tyler Varga (2011); and Linden Gaydosh (2009) – are also tournament alumni.
Action kicks off on Saturday July 9 at 11 a.m. CT with fourth place finisher from a year ago, Alberta, looking to rebound from missing the podium for the first time since 2010, as they take on last year’s consolation draw runner-up, Nova Scotia. At 2 p.m., New Brunswick will square-off against last year’s silver medalist, Ontario. At 5 p.m. Manitoba-Gold, will face Prairie rival and defending bronze medalist Saskatchewan. To cap off a busy first day of action, defending champion Quebec will take on Manitoba-Silver at 8:30 p.m.

About the Football Canada Cup
The Football Canada Cup was established in 1995 as an under-19 national championship, adding an under-17 division in 2004. In 2010, the two divisions merged into a single under-18 division to better align with Football Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Plan. Starting in 2012, a roster of Canada Cup standouts were chosen to participate as members of Canada’s under-18 national team in the following February’s International Bowl series against the U.S. national teams. From 2013 – 2016, Canada’s U18 national team composed of Canada Cup alumni are undefeated in International Bowl series play, posting a 4-0 record in Arlington, Texas.
