Canada gets mixed results after Day 1 of IFAF Flag Football World Championships
Both of Canada’s National Teams saw action on the opening day of the 2018 Flag Football World Championships in Panama City, Panama.
The Male National Team kicked off their tournament with a tough challenge in Israel as their opponent. Despite Israel harbouring a 26-19 lead at halftime, the Canadians mounted a comeback and edged their opponents 40-39.
The Canadians hope to build on their winning momentum as the team resumes play on Friday August 10, 2018 against Mexico at 11:45am EST and Denmark at 2:15pm EST. On Saturday August 11, 2018, Canada will battle Guatemala at 2:15pm EST and then host Panama at 7:15pm EST.
Meanwhile, the Female National Team faced an even more difficult mountain as they drew host Panama in their first game of the tournament. The host team enjoyed a 31-20 lead at halftime and never looked back. Neither team put up any points in the second half and Panama handed the Canadians the loss.
The Canadians will look to rebound on Friday August 10, 2018, when they face Brazil at 11:45am EST and the Czech Republic at 2:15pm EST. On the final day of round robin play, Canada will square off against Guatemala at 2:15pm EST and Japan at 8:30pm EST.
