With the series tied at 1, Canada and Team USA will renew their rivalry at the University of Texas-Arlington’s Maverick Stadium on February 7-8, in preparation for the 2014 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) U-19 World Championship to be held this July in Kuwait. Canada and Team USA have met in the past two IFAF U19 World Championship finals with Team USA having captured gold in 2009 while in 2012 Canada evened the score with a 23-17 win in Austin, Texas.
On Friday February 7, Canada’s Junior National Team composed of the top 60 players selected from regional identification camps across Canada will take on USA Football U-19 squad. Not only will national pride be on the line but Canada’s top 60 will be vying for one of 45 spots on the defending champion’s roster.
Canada’s Junior National Team is led by head coach Warren Craney (York University) who continues as defensive coordinator in 2014, a role he has fulfilled with not only the 2009 and 2012 Junior National Teams but also with the IFAF World Team (2010-’13).
The following night, Canada’s U-18 squad composed of the top players from the 2013 Football Canada Cup [U-18 national championship] will take on USA Football’s U-18 squad hoping to catch the eye of national team coaches.
Canada’s U-18 squad is led by head coach Brad Collinson (Université Laval) who helped lead Quebec to three consecutive Canada Cup titles, two of the past three as the team’s head coach.
