Canadian Women’s National Team win bronze at 2018 IFAF Flag Football World Championships

Men’s team finish in sixth place

On Sunday in Panama City, Panama, the Canadian National Women’s team, led by Head Coach Francois Bougie, won the bronze medal at the 2018 Flag Football World Championships.

Earlier in the day , Canada faced Austria in the quarterfinals.  Despite a tough challenge from the Austrians, the Canadians advanced to the semi-finals with a 18-13.

Next up for the Canadians was a semi-final date with their rivals, the United States.  Unfortunately, Canada fell short and the United States advanced to the gold medal game with a 45-26 victory.

Canada faced Mexico in the bronze medal game.  While the Mexicans mounted a competitive battle, the Canadians got past their opponents 19-14.

As for the Men’s team, they opened the day in a quarter-final match against Austria.  The Canadians started off strong and headed into halftime with a 19-12 lead over the Austrians.  However, the second half was a see-saw battle between the two teams.  Austria prevailed and moved onto the semi-finals with a 31-26 win.

Trying to rebound from the sting of the quarter-final loss, the Canadians squared off against Japan.  Canada cruised to a 32-12 victory over their opponents.

In their final game of the day, the Canadian Men faced for the second time in this tournament Israel.  At halftime, Israel led Canada 20-6.  By the end of the game, the Israelis had Canada’s number once again and won 39-12.

The Canadian Men’s National Team end their tournament in sixth place.
