BCFC Week 7 Summary

The Sun, Rams and Rebels claim victory
Week 7 of the regular season is in the books after wins by the Okanagan Sun, Langley Rams and Westshore Rebels.
REBELS 27 – HUSKERS 22
The week begun with the Rebels collecting their second win of the season with a 27-22 victory of the Valley Huskers.
The Rebels used two quarterbacks as Ashton MacKinnon and Talyn Davies combined for 21 of 35 for 209 yards, with Davies throwing a touchdown pass to Noah Rogers. Hunter Lake was the top target with eight catches for 83 yards.
The ground game came alive as Jordan Worth rushed 11 times for 139 yards and a major. MacKinnon also rushed for a TD.
The Rebels defence played well forcing five Huskers turnovers. Three of those were on downs while Cody Wist and Jailen Goodson recovered fumbles. Tristan Melanson blocked a kick and Jordan Goertzen led the club with five tackles.
This weekend the Rebels (2-5) will face their Island rivals the Vancouver Island Raiders (4-3) on Saturday at 2:00pm part of the BCFC Rivalry Week.
The Valley Huskers fall for the seventh straight time and didn’t have much offence until the fourth quarter when they scored 15 of their 22 points.
Quarterback Noah Falconer had his best game as a junior, finishing 28 of 57 for 358 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His main target was Blake Draper who caught 12 passes for 160 yards and both touchdowns. RJ Begg scored the other Huskers major on the ground.
Defensively the Huskers continue to be led by Connor Smith who recorded six tackles and blocked a kick. Raphael Olivares had the lone sack, Brenden Kohls recovered a fumble and Jason Ghag picked off his third pass.
The Huskers (0-7) will face their neighbour, the Langley Rams (4-3) on Saturday night in Chilliwack, part of the BCFC Rivalry Week.
RAMS 41 – BRONCOS 13
The past Saturday night the Langley Rams clobbered the Kamloops Broncos 41-13 for their fourth win of the season.
Quarterback Dylan Tucker had his best game of the season finishing 13 of 20 for 253 yards and threw four touchdown passes. Jacob Patko caught two majors, Dallas Yassinsky’s only catcj was a 12 yards TD pass and rookie Nick Agnoletto recorded a 76 yard touchdown strike.
Nathan Lund punched in a touchdown on 13 carries and 68 yards.
The Rams defence did a great job slowing down the Broncos high octane offence with seven sacks. Brock Gowanlock tallied his CJFL leading 11th sack, Saeed Hosain-Ali, Nick Westad, Adam Marchetti, Brendan Desjardine and Bashru Sise-Odaa each had a sack and Jacob Dodd and Shane Garza shared one.
Dodd led the club with five tackles and Devin Weemers jumped on a fumble.
Saturday night the Rams (4-3) will head up the street to face the Valley Huskers (0-7) during Rivalry Week, #cjflrivalry.
The Kamloops Broncos had no answer for the Rams this past weekend as both Steve Schuweiler and Connor Whitelaw had pressure in their face all night long. Schuweiler finished 16 of 26 for 232 and threw a pair of touchdowns, finding Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa.
Yachison made eight catches and set the new BCFC career record for receptions, now with 174.
Defensively the Broncos were beat up as Braden Van Koughnett, Michael Ochoa and Conner Thornewell each had four tackles. Tevin McCarty collected the lone sack and turnover, recovering a fumble.
The Broncos (4-3) will face the Okanagan Sun (7-0) for the first time this season when they head to Kelowna for an Interior showdown, part of the BCFC Rivalry Week.
SUN 28 – RAIDERS 7
The BCFC weekend concluded with the Okanagan Sun beating the VI Raiders 28-7 behind a suffocating defence. As a matter of fact the Sun “D” set a new BCFC record with 13 sacks, totalling minu 87 yards for the Raiders. The 13 sacks is second all time in the CJFL, only the Regina Rams who had 15 in 1984.
Jonas Gering led the defence with four sacks, Lucas Machado had three, Ryley Butler recorded a pair, both Isaiah Stewart and Hayden Hamilton each had 1.5 and both Layne Hull and Justin Gabriel share one. Meanwhile Brennan Van Nistelrooy recorded his league leading sixth interception and Matt McConnell had one.
Offensively the Sun started slow, but then tallied 16 points in the second half behind quarterback Cam Bedore, who at one point completed 10 passes in a row. He finished 13 of 19 for 156 yards and threw three touchdown passes. The veteran pivot found Kyle Kawamoto five times for 61 yards and two scored, while Lerone Robinson caught a major as well. Kyle Patchell hauled in five tough balls for 81 yards.
Sunday afternoon the Sun (7-0) will host their Interior Rival the Kamloops Broncos (4-3) at the Apple Bowl.
The VI Raiders never really got going in Week 7 as quarterback Liam O’Brien was under siege everytime he dropped back. He finished 9 of 21 for 115 yards, but did score the only Raiders touchdown with a 1 yards plunge.
Defensively the Raiders played well, but were on the field for the majority of the game. Dexter Shea led the club with a game high eight tackles and a fumble recovery of 37 yards. Cole Virtanen intercepted a pass and delivered two bone crunching hits. Nigel Henry and Quinton Bowles each had a sack and Josh Paisley had five tackles.
The Raiders (4-3) will host the Westshore Rebels (2-5) on Saturday afternoon in the first of three BCFC Rivalry games.
PFC Week 5 Summary

Hilltops come back win in Regina

The PFC featured just one game in Week 5 and the offences did not disappoint as the Saskatoon Hilltops scored 16 points the final quarter to comeback and beat the Regina Thunder 26-25 in the Shrine Bowl.
Hilltops quarterback Jared Andreychuk threw two of his three touchdown passes in the final frame finding Davis Mitchell and Evan Turkington with 75 seconds to play to steal the victory. Andreychuk finished 21 of 40 for 336 yards. His top target was Chad Braun who hauled in a game high seven passes for 95 yards. Mitchell caught four balls, two of which for touchdowns.
Without Logan Fischer in the backfield, the Hilltops ground game was quiet as Des Vessey carried 11 times for 73 yards.
The Hilltops offence tallied 447 yards, but it was a critical conceded safety by the Thunder with just over five minutes to play that helped in the comeback.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Hilltops clamped down in the second half. After allowing 18 points in the first half, the Thunder only managed seven points in the second half.
The “D” forced two interceptions including one by Cole Benkic late in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Benkic also had four tackles and half a sack for 16.5 defensive points. Quinn Pierce had the other half sack, three tackles and five assisted stops. Luke Melnyk made the other interception.
The Hilltops (5-0) will host the Edmonton Huskies (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
The Regina Thunder saw their fourth victory of the season slip away in the fourth quarter last weekend.
The Thunder outgained the Toppers with 517 yards of total offence, including 420 through the air. Jaeden Marwick was outstanding completing 24 of 41 for 420 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His main target was Thomas Bresciani who caught five passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. Victor St. Pierre-Lavoilette also caught a touchdown strike.
Marwick scored a touchdown with a one yard plunge.
The Thunder defence played great in the first half, but allowed 19 points in the second half. Taylor Mayer led the club with four tackles and an interception. Ashton Vien and Paul Toth also intercepted passes.
On Sunday afternoon the Thunder (3-2) will travel to Winnipeg for a date with the Rifles (1-3) at Investors Group Field. Kick-off is set for 1:00pm.
