Football Canada alumni Thomas earns 2017 Ed Kotowich Award

Former Team Canada alumni Jake Thomas has been named the recipient of the 2017 Ed Kotowich Award.

Thomas, who is a defensive tackle for the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Winnipeg Blue Bombers, led Canada to a silver medal finish at the inaugural 2009 IFAF World Junior Football Championships in Canton, Ohio.  Additionally, he was a member of the 2011 Men’s Senior Team that claimed silver at the Senior World Championships in Austria.

The award is given within the Blue Bombers organization to a player who exemplifies leadership, community involvement and gridiron ability.

A part of the Blue Bombers since 2012, the defensive star has been involved in many community efforts including serving as an ambassador for Break the Silence on Violence Against Women, the yearly event Dream Big Sleepover with Big Brothers and Sisters’ Winnipeg branch.

Thomas was chosen by the Blue Bombers in the fourth round of the 2012 CFL Draft, which was 29^th overall.

The native of Douglas, New Brunswick previously suited up for USports’ team, Acadia Axemen.  During his university career, he was selected as an AUS All-Star and a Second Team All-Canadian (2010).
