Football Canada announces ‘Football from Home’ initiative
(Ottawa, ON) – Football Canada is pleased to launch Football from Home, a new initiative for its members and participants which will provide education, learning tools, engaging activities and football experiences, all from the comfort of home.

Programs from home include a variety of at home activities for youth as well as access to at home content for the CFL Futures and First Down programs.
There are sections dedicated to youth ages 6-13, CFL Futures provides aspiring athletes a chance to learn the basics of football, as well as develop healthy habits through an active lifestyle. The First Down program helps introduce fundamental movement skills for children ages 4-7 such as running, throwing, catching and kicking.
Weekly contests and activities will be made available for youth. Some of these activities include word searches, colouring contests, best new drill design contest, Football 101 as well as a design a Football Canada mascot contest.
Coaching from home will be accessed through the Football Canada mobile app. The early access version of the app is available and can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play store, or by visiting footballcanadamobile.com. The French version of the app will be available at no cost during the months of June and July 2020.
Coaches can utilize pre-existing content or create their own practice plans and drills through the administrative portal.
For coaches, the learning from home pathway will include a number of online resources from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
Through footballcanada.com, coaches can access the NCCP’s Community Sport e-learning course for $19.99. This course is a part of the Community Sport Mandate put in place by Football Canada stating that “all coaches instructing athletes under the age of 14, regardless of specialization, must be community coach trained by 2021”.
Making Headway, a free e-learning series on concussion safety education, is also available through The Locker, the online portal for the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC).
Additionally, a number of online NCCP learning sessions delivered by the Provincial Sport Organizations such as safe contact will be made available through zoom. These sessions will be diverse, touching on areas of need for coordinators, positional coaches and head coaches.
The Provincial Football Organizations are also providing a number of at home learning opportunities. Some of these initiatives include Football Alberta’s online education series, as well as Football Quebec’s Football IQ : Coaching Clinics.
Members will also be able to benefit from the CAC’s safe sport training, a free e-learning module. Players Health Rehab will also be offering training in players health rehab to track head injuries and return to play protocols to Football Canada member organizations.
Provided by a third party – Volt Athletics is offering at home training. Volt has given Football Canada 20,000 two-month access codes to be distributed to its members, a $50 value. Their revolutionary performance training AI builds, tracks, adapts and evolves each user’s workout plan for continually personalized training. The training programs are tailored specifically to the age and development of the individual athlete and can be completed from home.
“We are all trying to find ways to stay active and engaged within football and sport during these unprecedented times,” said Football Canada Director of Sport, Aaron Geisler. “Football Canada is looking at innovative ways to enjoy the sport with its new Football from Home program. The program will allow participants of all ages to work on the development of their football IQ with new online programs and coaches to continue to learn and develop their coaching skills in preparation for their next season.”
