Football Canada unveils Senior National Team identification camps
Football Canada is proud to announce a series of player identification camps across Canada which will be used to help determine who will represent Canada at the 2015 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior Men’s World Championship.
Players born in 1995 or before with a Canadian citizenship and who are current or former members of their respective provincial football association in good standing with Football Canada will be eligible to attend the identification camps. The targeted groups of athletes include CIS, CJFL, CEGEP and European players in their last year of eligibility as well as former CIS, CJFL, NCAA and CFL players.
Players interested in attending are asked to complete the pre-registration form which can be found at www.footballcanada.com or through their Provincial Football Association. Team Canada hopefuls are required to bring their own shoulder pads, jersey, helmet, mouth guard and proper footwear. Please note that due to space and time constraints there will be a limit of 125 players per camp.
Canada’s coaching staff is comprised of some of the top coaches in Canadian university football. Greg Marshall (Western) returns to the staff taking over as head coach from legendary Western coach Larry Haylor, along with Jeff Cummins, defensive line (Acadia); Blake Nill, linebackers; and Steve Sumarah, running backs (Carleton). Rounding out the coaching staff are Glen Constantin, defensive coordinator (Laval); Kelly Jeffrey, offensive coordinator (Mt. Allison); and Stefan Ptaszek, receivers (McMaster).
The 2015 Senior World Championship will mark Canada’s second entry into the tournament held every four years since 1999. Canada captured silver at their inaugural 2011 competition in Austria. Canada’s roster included a number of past and current CFL players including Shamawd Chambers (Edmonton Eskimos), Lirim Hajrullahu, Michel-Pierre Pontbriand and Jake Thomas (Winnipeg Blue Bombers), Matt Walter (Calgary Stampeders), Matt Norman (BC Lions) as well as former CFL standout Adriano Belli.
Cost – $75.00
Players that may be playing outside the country that are not able to attend one of the three camps can contact Football Canada at the email below.
