Get to know U16 East All Star Team Running Back Malcolm Bussey!
Malcolm Bussey is a running back from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia who will be heading down to Arlington, Texas this upcoming January to participate in the 2018 International Bowl as a member of the U16 Eastern Canadian Team.
Bussey’s introduction to the sport was when he was eight years old.
“My grandfather used to play so my dad wanted me to play football,” recalled the running back. “So, I tried it and ended up doing really well so I kept with it.”
Since that time, Bussey has played for the Timberlea Titans organization and prep school team, Cardigan Mountain.
This past summer, the offensive standout reached the highlight of his career when he helped Team Nova Scotia win gold at the 2017 Under-16 Eastern Challenge in Wolfville.
“It was amazing,” reflected Bussey, who also was part of the Team Nova Scotia’s squad that travelled to the Spalding Cup two summers ago. “Being at home with my family and friends being able to watch it was pretty amazing.”
“Winning was even better.”
Excited when he saw his name on Twitter that he made the U16 Eastern Canadian Team, the offensive standout is looking forward to playing south of the border while representing Canada.
“I am just thankful to be wearing the maple leaf on my jersey and to be representing my country,” expressed Bussey. “I’m just proud of that.”
“I am looking forward to being in Texas. I have never been to Texas.”
On the field, the Nova Scotia player tries to emulate Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.
“I try to be just like him,” added Bussey. “I want to be just as good as him one day.”
