Get to know U18 All Star Team Defensive Back Lucas Cormier

Lucas Cormier is a defensive back from Sackville, New Brunswick who will be representing Canada at the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a member of the Under-18 National Team.

Beginning as a motocross racer, the defensive back’s father introduced him to football.

“He talked to me about how much he loved the sport,” recalled Cormier.  “I decided to try it and I just fell in love with it as soon as I stepped onto the field.”

Cormier has played his entire gridiron career in his native city.  Going through the minor football system, the New Brunswick standout is currently suiting up for the junior Tantramar Titans of the New Brunswick High School Football League (NBHSFL).

This past summer, Cormier achieved his gridiron highlight when he was named Defensive MVP of New Brunswick’s game versus Saskatchewan at the 2017 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

“It was really special because I saw my brother play at the Football Canada Cup,” explained the defensive back.  “It would have been two years before that and I was just waiting two years to be able to play in it.”

“It was a special moment when I achieved that.”

Overall, Cormier appreciated having the opportunity to play at the 2017 Football Canada Cup.

“It was a really cool experience,” recalled Cormier of the tournament.  “I loved the high-level of play it was really at because it really brings people to the top of their game and I really think that’s when you get the most out of the experience.”

“I think that’s when you learn the most too.”

Surprised and speechless of the news via Twitter he made the Under-18 National Team, the New Brunswick player is looking forward to what the experience of playing at the 2018 International Bowl.

“It really means a lot coming from a small province like New Brunswick,” elaborated Cormier.  “We stressed the entire time at the Football Canada Cup to show what New Brunswick football is all about and that’s what I am most excited about and also playing football at a high-level.”

“It’s really fun to see the different players around Canada.  I think it’s going to be a cool experience playing at a big stadium.”

The defensive back has been able to achieve success through the encouragement and support of his family, especially his father.

“He’s been an awesome role-model,” expressed Cormier.  “He’s taught me a lot about the game and a lot as a person also.”

“That’s really how I became the football player that I am today.”
