Get to know U18 All Star Team Running Back Kalenga Muganda
Kalenga Muganda is a running back from Quebec City, Quebec who will be representing Canada at the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a member of the National Under-18 Team.
The running back started playing football when he was 12 years old.
“My older brother was already playing so he kind of influenced me,” Muganda said.
Since then, Muganda has played for several other teams such as Chibougamau Falcons and RSEQ Juvenile Division 1’s Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard.
This year has been the highlight of the Quebec native’s career for a couple of different reasons.
“This is my last year, graduating year playing football,” explained Muganda. “It’s my last year playing football with people that I met four years ago.”
“Also, we won back-to-back championships so it’s really special to me.”
Last July, the offensive standout helped Quebec win gold at the 2017 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
“It was really great because you play with 40 guys who have the same passion and with the coaches too,” reflected Muganda of the tournament.
Having the opportunity to represent Canada this upcoming January at the 2018 International Bowl brings a sense of pride and excitement for the running back.
“It’s the highest point of my career,” added Muganda. “It’s really impressive.”
“I am excited to play at a high level, meeting people, meeting coaches and just enjoy myself.”
Muganda credits his mother for being a key source of inspiration and motivation when it comes to achieving gridiron and life goals.
“She’s taken care of four guys by herself,” expressed Muganda. “She’s a really strong woman and she has been through so many things that I couldn’t even handle.”
