Get to know U19 National Team Offensive Lineman Tyler Packer
Tyler Packer is an offensive lineman from Calgary, Alberta who will represent Canada at the 2018 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a member of the National Under-19 team.
The lineman began his gridiron career when he was eight years old.
“Coach asked me if I wanted to play football,” he recalled. “My mom put me through camp and I loved it ever since.
Packer has suited up for the Calgary Hilltoppers organization and the Notre Dame Pride of the Calgary Secondary High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA).
Currently, he plays for Canada West Universities Athletic Association’s University of Calgary Dinos, where he enjoyed the highlight of his career.
“I came in as a young kid and I ended up getting a starting spot for the rest of the season,” Packer said. “I had a blast doing it with all the guys.”
The offensive lineman credits his family for the constant support and inspiration.
“My family and my grandfather have always been there,” he expressed.
Other main influences are his high school coach, offensive line coach and the man who introduced him to the sport, Terry O’Brien.
When Packer learned he was selected to the National Team via a call from Head Coach Steve Sumarah, it became one of the best feelings he’s ever experienced. He is looking forward to wearing the Canadian jersey down in Texas at the 2018 International Bowl.
“It means a lot of pride, for where I come from and kind of show what we have,” he elaborated. “I am just looking forward to getting down there and hanging out with the guys. “
“It’s a great experience to play against the United States and show them what we’re here for.”
