Making Head Way in Football e-learning module now mandatory for upcoming season

Prior to stepping onto the field for the upcoming season all Football Canada member coaches (flag, touch and tackle) are now required to complete the e-learning module, Making Head Way in Football. This decision was approved at the 2015 Football Canada planning meetings held last weekend in Toronto and takes effect at the start of respective league’s upcoming seasons.

A compliment to the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), the Making Head Way in Football e-learning module is offered in partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada and is available free of charge.

“Football Canada and the provincial members continue to make safety its top priority,” said Football Canada President, Richard MacLean. “Through the Making Head Way in Football e-learning module coaches gain the skills and knowledge required to improve player safety. Ensuring Canada’s football coaches gain this training is essential to growing the great game of football.”

This football specific NCCP Professional Development module covers:  what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and how to ensure athletes return to play safely.

The module can be taken through coach.ca’s database The Locker. To begin, you will require an NCCP#. If you have never taken an NCCP course and need an NCCP# one can be created upon registration with The Locker.

Players and parents are also encouraged to take the e-learning module to help increase their knowledge and awareness.

Option 1: Online through the locker.

Visit thelocker.coach.ca/ and click on NCCP# lookup. The page will ask you for your email address. You can also lookup your NCCP# if you don’t have an email address by supplying your first and last name in addition to your date of birth. If you require additional assistance please contact coach services using option two below.
