QUÉBEC WINS 2011 FOOTBALL CANADA CUP AGAINST HOST ALBERTA

Québec and host Alberta faced off in the gold medal game of the 2011 Football Canada Cup at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium. To the delight of the home crowd, Alberta took a quick 1-0 lead off a 65-yard single on the opening kick-off.
Québec’s opening series saw them bring the ball all the way down to the Alberta goal line on a 30-yard pass from Guillaume Dumas to Étienne Moisan who evaded two Alberta tacklers along the near sideline. Quarterback, Guillaume Dumas ran the ball down to the 1-yard line however Québec was unable to convert on third and one.
Alberta responded on the following play with a 44-yard run by running back Kellen Forest. Later in the half, Alberta Jadon Schneider stripped the ball from Québec QB Guillaume Dumas which set up a 32-yard Stephen Fabian field goal attempt. Fabian’s attempt missed wide left but had enough leg for a single.
Québec responded on a 65-yard run by Alexandre Huard who ran down the near sideline, beat the defense to the corner then cut back, finding a seam down the middle of the field for the score. To end the first half, Alberta’s Jordan Letkeman intercepted a Guillaume Dumas pass in the end zone. Following the turnover, Alberta threw a 34-yard halfback option from Adam Zajdel to Colton Balicki but were once again unable to find the end zone.
Québec widened their lead in the 3rd quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Hugo Richard to Alexandre Huard. The touchdown was set up by a 34-yard pass from Richard to Dev Lamour. Québec increased their lead with an 84-yard touchdown pass from Hugo Richard to Dev Lamour.
Inside the Québec red zone with Alberta threatening to score, quarterback Matthew Bonaca fumbled and was recovered by Québec’s defense. The following play, Québec capitalized on the turnover with a 92-yard play action touchdown pass from Hugo Richard to Dev Lamour to make the score 28-2. Hugo Richard finished the day completing 4 of 6 passes for 224 yards.
In the loss, Alberta quarterback Matthew Bonaca completed 23 of 39 passes for 214 yards while running back Kellen Forest rushed for 62 yards on 9 attempts.
