Quebec wins gold at 2018 Under-16 Eastern Challenge

Saskatchewan South earn silver, Ontario claim bronze.

In their inaugural appearance, Quebec took home gold at the 2018 Under-16 Eastern Challenge with a  38-8 victory over Saskatchewan South in Guelph, Ontario.

Quebec got on the scoreboard early as they added a field goal early in the first quarter.  The team would get 24 unanswered points in the first half.

Right before the end of the first half, Saskatchewan would get on the scoreboard with a major.

At halftime, Quebec enjoyed a 24-7 lead over Saskatchewan South.

In the third quarter, Quebec added another touchdown score.

Saskatchewan attempted to get some points on the board at the 2:00 minutes mark of the 4^th quarter, but their field goal attempt was not good.

With 1:19 left in the game, Quebec rounded out the scoring when Edouard Therrien recovered a Saskatchewan South fumble and dashed down the field for a touchdown score.

Offensive Players of the Game were Kaelan Trepanier (Quebec) and Brennan Horvath (Saskatchewan South).  Defensive Players of the Game were Joel Pinsonneault (Quebec) and John Stoll (Saskatchewan).

Ontario claimed bronze at the tournament. New Brunswick finished fourth while Nova Scotia ended fifth.

Tournament MVP’s were Quebec’s Kenzy Paul (offence), Saskatchewan South’s Hunter Eagles (defence) and Ontario’s Darwin Milloy (special teams).
