Seven Canadian Development Team standouts join 28 Canadians on IFAF World Team roster
Eight players including seven Canadians from the IFAF Development Team have been rewarded for their hard work during practice this week by being promoted to the IFAF World Team which will face the U.S. Under-19 National Team in the 2012 International Bowl on Wednesday.
The eight athletes impressed during four days of practices at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, and will fill the remaining spots on the 50-man IFAF World Team roster. The six of the seven newest Canadian additions are Football Canada Cup (FCC) alumni who join 28 Canadians already on the World Team roster.
Christophe Mulumba, a native of Laval, QC currently attends Kent School, an American prep school in Connecticut. This season Christophe was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Erickson League and All-New England (top player in the region). Chris has also participated in the 2009 and 2010 Football Canada Cup as a member of Team Québec where his stellar play earned him tournament all-star selections both years. He has committed to play at the University of Maine.
Quarterback, Drew Burko is in his first year at the University of Saskatchewan. Burko led Team Saskatchewan to a National (Football Canada Cup) Championship in 2010, earning the nod as a tournament all-star.
Adam Melanson is one of the top Canadian under-18 defensive linemen, having earned a 2011 Football Canada Cup tournament all-star selection while playing for Team Nova Scotia.
Mother Teresa Spartans fullback Tom Marshall, was a valuable asset for Team Ontario West at the 2010 Football Canada Cup as he helped open running lanes for offensive tournament MVP, Tyler Varga who was named CIS Rookie of the Year this past season.
University of Calgary linebacker TANNER DOLL, who played for Team Alberta at the 2010 Football Canada Cup will also be the World Team’s long snapper.
Offensive lineman Peter Godber, played this year with the Metro Toronto Wildcats and also captained Team Ontario East at the 2011 Football Canada Cup.
Rounding out the group is former Brampton Bulldog Running Back Max Thompson, who spent last season at New Mexico Military Institute where he recorded 227 total yards in a single game, including 140 rushing yards, 14 receiving yards, a touchdown and returned three kickoffs for 73 yards.
