Seven national team alums heading down south

Seven national team alumni made their commitment official on February 1, the NCAA’s national signing day.  The first Wednesday of February typically marks the opening day that high school recruits can officially sign a National Letter of Intent with an NCAA football program.

Among the Canadians that committed to play football down south are seven players that participated in the under-18 national tackle football championship, the Football Canada Cup, including 2016 Canada Cup all-star Deionte Knight.

Five of the recruits represented Canada at the 2016 edition of the International Bowl series at AT&T Stadium including Gregor MacKellar (Timberlea, NS), Tyrell Richards (Brampton, ON), and Sidy Sow (Bromont, QC). The trio helped Canada’s U18s extend their winning streak to four games with a pair of wins against the US U19 Selects and US U18 national team at Cowboy Stadium.

An eighth alum stays north

Jacob Mozill, a linebacker from Saskatoon is also headed to the NCAA but will do so on Canadian soil, opting to sign with the Simon Fraser Clan. Mozill recently recorded three total tackles (1 solo and two assisted) as a member of Canada’s U19 national team at the inaugural North American Championship in Orlando. The Centennial Charger product becomes the eighth Canada Cup alumnus and eighth Team Canada player to sign with an NCAA football program in 2017.
