U16 Regional Challenges: Eastern and Western Tournament Schedules Announced
The inaugural Football Canada U16 Western and Eastern Challenges begin on Sunday July 2 in Lethbridge and Tuesday July 18 in Wolfville, respectively.
Two unique formats, same goal
The regional tournaments feature different formats but work towards the same goal. The Western Challenge will feature a three-day round-robin tournament in which each team plays one another. The Eastern Challenge features a two-day tournament in which the opening day’s winning and losing teams will play one another on day two.
“Player development and introducing athletes to tournament-style competition are the two main goals of the U16 regional challenges,” said Shannon Donovan, executive director, Football Canada. “There were some great discussions between participating provinces as to what format would work best. In the end, we settled on two unique formats and will use this first year to provide a full review of both formats.”
