Watch Day 1 of the 2017 U16 Western Challenge
Football Canada’s inaugural Under-16 Western Challenge takes place from July 2-8 at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium in Alberta.
Provincial teams from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and host Alberta will to test their skills against top players from neighbouring provinces. The format features a three-day round robin format where each team will play each other once.
“Player development and introducing athletes to tournament-style competition are the two main goals of the U16 regional challenges,” said Football Canada Cup Executive Director Shannon Donovan.
The event builds on Alberta’s tradition of launching national tournaments.
“Alberta is thrilled to host the first ever U16 western regional,” commented Football Alberta Associate Executive Director Tim Enger. “As host of the first ever Football Canada Cup in 1993, we are proud to help Football Canada kick off new initiatives like this that only help our sport.”
Wolfville, Nova Scotia will host the East Challenge later this July.
