Women compete for chance to represent Canada in Finland
The women earned invitations to the attend one of two final selection camps based on their performances at last summer’s Challenge Cup which hosted 175 players from 4 provincial and one regional team.
The East selection camp takes place February 24 in Fredericton, New Brunswick at the Fredericton Dome from 10 am – 4 pm while the West camp runs March 2 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan at the Moose Jaw Field House from 11 am – 4 pm.
Canada is lead by head coach François Bougie, defensive coordinator Jeff Yausie and offensive coordinator, Jim Mather. The Canadian women took home silver at the inaugural 2010 IFAF Women’s World Championship held in Sweden.
“Women’s football is growing rapidly across Canada — the talent level and football IQ of the players has improved significantly,” said Women’s National Team, defensive coordinator, Jeff Yausie who is also the head coach of the Saskatoon Valkyries.
A final roster composed of approximately 45 players in addition to a practice roster of 5 will be announced towards the middle of March.
