POSTING 15-55 Assistant Football Coach (Temporary part-time Position)

Bishop’s University is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill a temporary part-time position as Assistant Football Coach in the Athletics & Recreation Department. Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the incumbent will be responsible to assist in the planning and implementation of the football program at Bishop’s University. Collaborating with all other members of the athletic department, the incumbent will also assist in creating a departmental culture that embraces and supports athletes, coaches and teams in the pursuit of excellence and will contribute to the development of programs and services that support the needs of varsity athletes. This position has a work week of 0 to 32.5 hours from Monday to Friday. Some tasks will require the ability to work non-traditional hours, often for extended periods of time outside the course of a typical working day. The working period will be from January 2016 to December 2017.
Nature of duties and responsibilities
- Perform all coaching duties in a manner that is consistent with the operation of a successful varsity program and be involved in team selection, personnel management, team and individual goal setting, individual skill acquisition and refinement programs, tactical and technical preparation, practice planning, preparation and implementation, game preparation, scouting, film breakdown and evaluation, athlete performance goal setting, program evaluation, maintenance of regular contact with athletes, etc.;
- Stay current with knowledge, trends and practices that are necessary to build and maintain a nationally competitive program;
- Coordinate any of the three phases of football (offense, defense or special teams)
- Assist the Head Football Coach with the evaluation, identification and recruiting of football players,
- Organize football school and assist the Head Football Coach with the purchasing of football equipment
- Provide administrative assistance and support, attending and conducting meetings on the day-to-day requirements of the program;
- Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive and effective national recruitment strategy
- Attend league meetings when requested, ensuring compliance with all league regulations while maintaining a positive relationship with other sport governing bodies
- Act as an ambassador representing the team and University in public speaking appearances, clinics, and camps (etc.) to enhance and promote the visibility and image of the University and program
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 3 years of post-secondary football coaching experience;
- Level 2 NCCP Coaching Certification, higher level would be an advantage;
- Experience working with and developing high performance athletes in a university environment would be an advantage
- Comprehensive knowledge of football coaching strategies and systems, the ability to teach, coach, and prepare for practice and games at a national level;
- Creative thinking and the ability to work in a team environment;
- Ability to use good judgment, solid decision making, and high level of flexibility;
- Strong organizational skills and efficient time management ;
- Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written), and working knowledge of French;
- Proficiency in computer software applications;
Classification: *Class 13 $24.57 to $32.07 per hour APBU – ( unionized position) *preliminary evaluation
